We recently hosted a roundtable discussion on motor insurance. Ombudsman Leader and Head of Practice for motor insurance, Rachel Lam, shared insight with insurers and brokers about the cases we’re seeing and our approach to complaint-handling.
Rachel also outlined to attendees a blog we’ve recently published that covers two areas of complaint following vehicle theft claims: declined claims following theft by deception and declined claims that involve a vehicle that has been modified.

The Financial Ombudsman Service recently published its Annual Report and Accounts for 2021/22. The report sets out the activity of the Financial Ombudsman in the last financial year.
The Financial Ombudsman Service has announced the appointment of Jenny Simmonds to the role of Chief Finance and Risk Officer. Jenny will take up her role in January 2023 and will lead the financial and risk infrastructure. Jenny will be accountable for the property and facilities management strategies, the procurement function and will also act as Company Secretary.
We have published a Feedback Statement that sets out our response to the submissions we received to the Discussion Paper we published in June 2022, on creating a funding model for the future.
Ombudsman Leader, Constance Chinhengo, attended an Association of British Insurers (ABI)’s event earlier this month to talk about the FCA’s new Consumer Duty and the role of the Financial Ombudsman Service. Constance shared some of the ways we’re working with the regulator and with stakeholders during the implementation period.
