This page lists details of other complaint-handling organisations, including other ombudsman schemes, who may be able to help if your complaint is about something we can't help with.
You can find information about the types of complaint we can look at on our complaints we can help with page.
Financial services
Generally, we can look at most complaints about businesses that provides financial services in or from the UK. In some circumstances, we can look at complaints about businesses that are based outside the UK where they are covered by our service.
For complaints about financial businesses based outside the UK, you may be able to get help from an equivalent complaints-handling body.
Here is a list of some of the other complaint-handling organisations who may be able to help:
- For complaints about a financial business based in another European country – the European Financial Dispute Resolution Network (FIN-NET) website can help you find the right organisation to get in touch with. You might find it helpful to watch their video which explains what they do and how they can help.
- The Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman can help with complaints about financial services provided in or from the Channel Islands of Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and Sark.
- The Isle of Man also has a Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme – there’s more information and their contact details on the Isle of Man government website.
If you’re unsure, get in touch with us and we’ll let you know, we may also be able to help direct your complaint to the right organisation.
Utilities
We can usually help with things like how an insurer handled your insurance claim, for example if you needed to make an insurance claim for flood damage, or where you’ve got insurance cover from an energy provider – for example, home emergency cover from your gas provider, or complaints about mobile phone insurance sales and claims.
If you have a complaint about something other than a financial product or service, take a look at the following organisations who may be able to help:
- Consumer Council for Water (for England and Wales) can help with problems with water companies and services they provide.
- Ombudsman Services: Energy can help consumers and small businesses with complaints about gas or electricity companies.
- Ombudsman Services: Communication can deal with complaints about mobile phone companies, internet providers, and telephone companies for consumers and small businesses.
Retail, leisure and services
In some cases, we may be able to help – for example we can help with complaints about travel insurance or motor insurance, or if you paid for your double glazing, conservatory or other goods and services using credit.
If you have a complaint that falls within the retail, leisure or travel services sector, here is a list of some of the other complaint-handling organisations who may be able to help:
- Civil Aviation Authority provides information about how to make a complaint about an airline or airport service.
- Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Scheme (DGCOS) help with complaints about double glazing and conservatory installers who are members of the scheme.
- The Motor Ombudsman investigate complaints about accredited garages, dealerships, vehicle manufacturers and warranty providers.
- The Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman deal with complaints about UK furniture and home improvement retailers who are members of the scheme.
Public services and government
We can usually help with things like complaints about medical insurance sales or claims. Find out more about how we deal with complaints about medical insurance on our website.
You can find below a list of other complaint-handling organisations who may be able to help if you have a complaint about public or government services:
- Independent Police Complaints Commission (IOPC) oversee the police complaint system in England and Wales.
- Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman help with complaints about councils, all social care providers (including care homes and home care agencies), and some other organisations providing local public services.
- The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman investigate complaints about the NHS in England, UK government departments and some other public organisations.
Professional bodies and housing
In some cases, we may be able help – for example, problems with legal expenses insurance. You can find more information about how we resolve complaints about legal expenses insurance on our website.
If you have a complaint about something other than a financial product or service, take a look at the following organisations who may be able to help:
- Housing Ombudsman Service can help with complaints from tenants or leaseholder about social landlords – or about private landlords or letting agents who are a member of the scheme.
- The Legal Ombudsman deals with complaints about businesses that provides legal service such as solicitors, barristers, cost lawyers etc.
- The Property Ombudsman investigate complaints about property (estate) agents in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
Education and employment
You can find a list below to other complaint-handling organisations who may be able to help if you have a complaint about something other than a financial product or service:
- Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) provides information and advice to employers and employees about employment rights and best practices. ACAS also help to resolve workplace disputes, including ones about pay deductions, holidays, redundancy and working hours.
- Office of the independent Adjudicator (OIA) deals with complaints from students about higher education providers in England and Wales.
